The AMaGAs Are Back...

ABOUT THE AWARDS

The Australian Museums and Galleries Awards — known as the AMaGAs — celebrate the creativity, innovation and leadership that define Australia’s museums and galleries sector. From exhibitions, publications and research projects to community partnerships, digital initiatives and sector leadership, the AMaGAs recognise the work that strengthens and inspires our communities.

After a hiatus in 2025, the AMaGAs return in 2026, with nominations opening on Thursday 28 May. This year’s awards ceremony will be held in Canberra as part of the AMaGA National Conference, and will also be live-streamed so colleagues across the country can celebrate together, wherever they are.

The 2026 AMaGAs will recognise outstanding projects delivered between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2025, acknowledging two years of remarkable work across the sector that deserves to be celebrated.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2026?

We’ve introduced several changes to the 2026 AMaGAs to make the awards more accessible and easier to enter. Member organisations will now receive two complimentary entries as part of their membership benefits, and the nomination process has been streamlined to create a smoother experience for applicants.

A list of award categories have been provided below, and full details on eligibility, assessment criteria, category information and the nomination process can be found in the corresponding tabs above. We encourage all applicants to review the guidelines carefully before preparing their submission. If you have any questions, get in touch with the team at awards@amaga.org.au.
